This Glenlyon retreat was envisioned as a quiet country escape, nestled within the forested landscape of Hepburn Shire with sweeping views across the surrounding bushland.
The extension was created to complement the existing mud brick home while introducing a distinctly modern and refined addition. A striking full-height glass hallway forms a unique link between old and new, allowing the original home and contemporary extension to sit together with a sense of contrast, clarity and connection.
Designed as a weekend retreat for a city-based family, the extension comprises three bedrooms, a sitting room, ensuite and master bedroom. Working closely with the owner, who brought a strong design sensibility to the project, Carl helped bring together a highly considered material palette, including imported finishes, full-height aluminium windows and micro cement surfaces that flow from floor to ceiling.
The result is a beautifully resolved country home, industrious, modern and deeply connected to its natural setting.
